MIDDLE SCHOOL ART WITH MRS. KNOWLTON

Welcome to your elective course of art. In this course, we will come together to learn basic art techniques, as well as receive a basic overview of art history including past artists and associated techniques.

This course will seek to help students uncover God given gifts in the area of art and encourage utilization of these gifts (Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. -1 Peter 4:10). Students will understand how their artistic gifts were provided by God and that they are to be used for God’s purpose (For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. – Ephesians 2:10). Students will utilize their artistic gifts to glorify the Lord by learning about and creating their own art. Students will illustrate God’s love, communicate the gospel, express gifts of the spirit, depict human empathy for others, and care for God’s creation through works they create (Galatians 5:22, Luke 4:18, and Isaiah 58).

Students are expected to respect their own art work and the work of others by refraining from any derogatory remarks about the work created. While creativity is encouraged, behavioral standards will still be maintained (Matthew 7:12). In addition, all work must be original work. Each student is expected to have their own original ideas of art. No art tracing or duplication of other student’s ideas will be accepted.

Curriculum for this class will include the Arts Attack Program, a program that has created a series of art instruction lessons and associated projects. The level of thought and effort put into art work will be the basis for grading art projects. In addition, short monthly quizzes will be given to ensure students are retaining information on techniques and artists.
